“Deconstructed Reconstruction” is the exact phrase that can be used to describe this beautiful boundary-pushing collection from Menyelek Rose this season.
Always the one to challenge traditional notions of gender and fashion. Using unexpected materials such as lace, and tulle combined with unusual silhouettes. While still maintaining a luxury aesthetic was the mind-blowing balance we love to see here at NM. Using mostly black and grey to depict the hard year we’ve had during COVID-19’s outbreak Menyelek’s collection name “Sad Lad” represents our year of hardship well.
The show began with the most beautiful ballerina in all her natural hair splendor bellowing out an opera melody in a tulle ensemble on top of a wooden table. While the DJ is fashioned in what looks to be a Menyelek Rose original deconstructed blazer and plays punk techno music for the models to walk out to. Reminiscent of early Rick Ownes and Alexander McQueen collections the showmanship of this show was refreshing.
Seen by our editors as a beautiful behind-the-scenes look at fashion’s new wave. This collection is yet another testament to Menyelek’s creativity and commitment to pushing fashion forward into an inclusive and creative space. No two looks are the same, and the feelings this collection invokes are an extra cherry on a fashion ice cream sunday.
DETAILS WE LOVE
This blazer’s mix of unconventional materials, different dying methods, and tailoring style caught the NM fashion editor’s eye. Dually dyed tulle strategically placed in and counter adjacent to each other made for an interesting piece.
The various long stretch stitch techniques using crochet thread on the sleeves of this garment is what caught the eye of our fashion editors, as it was one of the only garments to hold some pops of color, the way it’s constructed and fashioned seems handmade and intentional. Mixing denim, sweatshirt fabric, and classic wool suiting this garment was a stand-out for innovation for us.
the coolest thing is when you don’t care about being cool anymore. indifference is the greatest aphrodisiac- That’s what really sums up style for me.
